The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed an explosion that rocked the secretariat of the Action People’s Party in Port Harcourt on Monday morning.
Additionally, the police stated that its bomb disposal squad had been dispatched to the scene to assess the situation, determine the extent of the damage, and identify the source of the explosive substance.
The spokesperson for the Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident to our correspondent via telephone on Monday.
The Punch had exclusively reported that an explosion from a substance believed to be dynamite rocked the APP secretariat, located on Tombia Road in GRA, Port Harcourt, at about 1 am on Monday, destroying doors, windows, and other property belonging to the party.
This incident occurred amidst speculations that the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, plans to move with his supporters to the APP following the alleged hijack of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state by his predecessor and estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike.
The State Chairman of the APP, Sunny Wokekoro, also confirmed the explosion to our correspondent, saying, “I just arrived here now. I’m assessing the damage after which I will address a press conference.”
Meanwhile, Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, stated that the command has begun an investigation into the incident to determine its cause, apprehend the culprits, and ensure they face justice.
She said, “Yes, the command can confirm the incident. It happened early this morning.
“We have dispatched our bomb disposal unit to the party office to ascertain what really happened, and an investigation has commenced.”
