The Anambra State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Igwe Chigozie has urged the newly inaugurated Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) to ensure a free and fair local government election in the state.
Igwe, who spoke at a press briefing in Awka, on Thursday, emphasized the need for ANSIEC to maintain its independence and avoid bias towards the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) led-government.
He warned that the PDP would not tolerate any form of manipulation or rigging in the upcoming local government elections.
He said the party is fully prepared and positioned to win the majority of the elections.
“The PDP has been strategizing and working tirelessly towards the future elections in the state, including the 2025 governorship elections,” he said.
The Chairman also urged ANSIEC to adhere to the principles of transparency, fairness, and impartiality in the planning and conduct of the elections.
He emphasised that anything short of that would be unacceptable to the PDP and the people of Anambra State.
He also called on the electoral body to ensure that all eligible voters are given the opportunity to participate in the electoral process without any form of intimidation or harassment.
Igwe expressed confidence in the PDP’s ability to win the local government elections, citing the party’s popularity and acceptance among the people of Anambra State.
He assured that the PDP would continue to work hard to ensure victory in the anticipated elections, reiterating the party’s commitment to democratic principles and its determination to ensure that the will of the people prevails in the forthcoming local government elections in the State.
