The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) has concluded arrangements to organize a public lecture in honour of its late governing council chairman and erudite medical expert, Late Prof Oladipo Akinkugbe.
Akinkugbe during his life time was a world class surgeon and renowned professor of Medicine and Surgery.
The university had four years ago instituted public lecture in honour of the renowned scholar tagged “Emeritus Professor Oladipo Akinkugbe distinguished lecture series.”
The fourth in the series of the public lecture is billed to hold next week Monday at the university hall and it will be delivered by a former President of the West African College of Surgeons who is also a professor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Prof Adeyinka Omigbodun
The lecture, according to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr Isaac Oluyi will hold is aimed at promoting the legacy of excellence as epitomized by Professor Akinkugbe, who was one of the most distinguished academics, medical teachers and leaders in the history of Nigeria.
Oluyi said the lecture has, over the last three years, focused on different dimensions of the legacies of Prof. Akinkugbe which include, among others, research, teaching and clinical services.
He recalled that Professor Akinkugbe played key leadership roles within the health profession, education landscape and the Nigerian university system, leaving behind a legacy of impactful mentorship.
The PRO informed that the lecture will focus on “The nexus between leadership, mentorship and academic development in Nigeria.”
“It needs to be stressed that this lecture series was established in honour of the late Professor Oladipo Akinkugbe, the first Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of UNIMED, Ondo,” he said.
