The traditional ruler of the Ogbunka community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra state, Igwe Amb. John Mark Anyaoha, has conferred the chieftaincy title of DIke-Ochioha 1 (Great Warrior one) of Ogbunka kingdom on the outgoing commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Aderemi Adeoye for curbing the activities of insurgency in the area.
Igwe Anyaoha conferred the title on the CP alongside his wife, Mrs Bolanle Adeoye who was also honoured with a chieftaincy title of “Adaejiemba ‘N’ Ogbunka kingdom” at his palace on Sunday.
The honour was part of his (the commissioner’s activities marking his retirement ceremony that begins with a pull-out parade at the Alex Ekwueme Square Awka on Saturday.
Anyaoha, who thanked Adeoye for his efforts at restoring peace in the Ogbunka community and Anambra state in general, pledged his readiness to continue to partner with the police and other security agencies in the state in the fight against criminality.
According to the monarch, the title is to appreciate the CP for what he has done for the people of Ogbunka kingdom, Orumba South Local government area and the state as a whole within a short period of eight months in office. I pray God to continue to promote and protect him and his family as he finally retired on May 1, 2024.
Every good work goes with a good reward.
He said CP Adeoye restored peace in the area after he led a successful security operation that dismantled two major operational camps of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the security wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the Area.
“The CP is a good man. His performance was beyond human comprehension. Immediately after he was posted into Anambra state as commissioner of police, he changed the negative narrative of the security architecture of the state, particularly, in the Orumba South council area.
‘”The honour was also to strengthen the already existing tribal relationship between our people and the Yoruba community in the state.”
While commending the state governor, Chukwuma Soludo for approving the conferment of chieftaincy title, Igwe Anyaoha called on the incoming Commissioner of police, not to deviate from the security structures, Adeoye has put in place to combat the activities of kidnappers, insurgency and other criminal activities across the 21 local government area of the state.
The youth president general of the community, Comrade Michael Ameachi, in his brief speech, said the honour will serve as a motivational tool for other officers still serving in the state.
He also thanked the CP for restoring peace in the Ogbunka community and its environs.
Responding, CP Adeoye thanked the traditional ruler and his cabinet for the honour bestowed on him and said that he has chosen Anambra state as his second home.
The CP, while speaking further, revealed that the Anambra State Government, aside from naming a street after him, also approved the conferment of two chieftaincy titles on him in the state, for his works and achievements in the State and that the title, ‘DIke Ọchịọha 1 of Ogbunka Kingdom” was one of the two propose chieftaincy titles.
He urged traditional rulers in the state to keep watchful eyes, partner security agencies and report obnoxious conducts capable of disrupting peace to relevant quarters.
He also urged officers of the command to focus more on how to protect the lives and property of the citizens than gratification.
Recall that Ogbunka was one of the communities in Anambra State where CP Adeoye and his men destroyed several kidnappers’ and criminal hideouts, and made some rescues and recoveries that helped secure the lives and properties of the people.
It would also be recalled that the CP, through the instrumentality of his Command, was also a key player in the restoration of calm, law and order in the Ogbunka community in January this year, when the reactions and counter-reactions that resulted from a particular election in the community nearly brewed something else, but for the urgent intervention and efficacious measures undertaken.
In the Ogbunka community alone, the Police Command, under CP Adeoye’s watch, rescued three kidnap victims, including a reverend father; arrested three suspects; recovered three Pump Action guns; recovered 9 vehicles snatched on gunpoint, all in one day.
Adeoye was accompanied by the POWA Executive Officers and Yoruba community leaders in Anambra state.
