Following the 2-2 draw against Burnley in the Premier League, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his disappointment at fans who abused Conor Gallagher on social media.
Gallagher, a Chelsea academy graduate, received criticism for appearing to ignore a club mascot.
Pochettino defended the England international, stating that he knows him personally and that he cares deeply about everything.
The Argentine urged fans to stop using social media to abuse others, adding that nobody deserves such treatment.
“That’s upset me [the reaction]. No one wants to do something like this with this intention,” Pochettino said, as quoted by The Independent.
“I know Conor, Conor is a great, great kid. He cares about everything. I hate the people who abuse in social media. Please stop. We are all responsible.
” How do you know the intention of Conor is to ignore the mascot? It makes me very sad. Nobody deserves to be abused. Come on.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea also released a statement condemning the abuse, urging fans to show support and respect for their players.
