Suspended National Treasurer of the Labour Party, Ms Oluchi Opara, has said that the Labour Party was beginning to comply with due process following her public alert of a possible compromise to rob the party of a strong show at the Guber election in September, 2024.
She described the emergence of Barr. Olumide Akpata as the Labour Party Flag bearer for the Edo state gubernatorial election as a good development for the party and a direct response to her outcry that the National Chairman of the party would compromise the process to produce an unpopular candidate for the party to square up with other parties at the ballot.
Oluchi, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune in a phone interview, said her alert to the leadership of the party and the public forced the party to do the right thing, and Akpata emerged from the party primary through a fair process free of any kind of curious activity that could undermine the integrity of the process.
Opara had alleged that the National Chairman, Julius Abure was in collusion with the ruling PDP in the atate to compromise the chances of the LP in the ballot.
Opara told Tribune that “The primary was the fairest of the fairest that was ever witnessed if you noticed, it was beamed live and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was present.
“Although no human act can be said to be perfect but compared to other primaries, it was perfect, those who lost saw the winner emerge from a fair process.
“This is happening because of my Outcry, if not for my Outcry, Abure would have done the bidding of the opposition by imposing an unpopular candidate that would be defeated without any qualms.” Oluchi stated
She maintained that the process for her removal was faulty and cannot stand the test of time as her tunure and that of the National Chairman would end in June.
