Former Abia State House of Assembly candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Hon Otuwe Kalu Oji on Friday, tasked the leadership of the APC on unity of purpose ahead of future elections in the state.
He insisted that the party can form a government at all levels of leadership in Abia if warring factions sheath their swords and work as one family in defiance of personal grudges.
Oji spoke on Friday while answering questions from newsmen in Umuahia, the Abia state capital.
He regretted the abysmal performances of the APC in the concluded 2023 elections held in the seventeen local government areas of the state by the national electoral commission, wherein the party failed to secure the state governorship seat during the execrise.
The party chieftain attributed the party’s poor outing to the unending wranglings among the major stakeholders of the party from the state.
Oji called on the state APC leadership to go back to the drawing board and ensure all issues impeding the efforts of the party to win elections are resolved, saying that a house divided by itself cannot stand.
His words: “We need unity in Abia APC chapter. There’s no way a party that is divided by itself can secure victory during an election.
“Every aggrieved party member should put aside personal grudges if the APC must win the governorship, state assembly election and the rest.
“The state leadership should embark on genuine reconciliation so as to engender unity of purpose among party members, so as to put APC on the right path to win a majority number of political seats in Abia state in future electoral contests.
“Because, this was one of the problems that negatively affected APC chances of winning the Abia governorship seat election in the last elections. We had so many people who worked against APC.”
