The Ogun State Government has rolled out N5 billion palliatives for the people of the state to cushion the effects of the prevailing economic realities that Nigerians are currently facing.
This was disclosed by Governor Dapo Abiodun on Wednesday at a news briefing held at the Olusegun Osoba Press Centre, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The governor explained that the intervention would cover health, education, and food distribution to the people of the state.
He mentioned that the state government would provide a minimum of five exercise books each for all 850,000 students in public primary and secondary schools.

Abiodun also stated that his administration would provide a one-time N10,000 education support grant for at least 100,000 pupils in our public primary and secondary schools in the state. Meanwhile, 27,600 indigent students in the nation’s tertiary institutions would receive an education grant of N50,000 each.
In the area of health, the governor said the state would provide insurance health to no fewer than 70,000 individuals, including pregnant women, children, the elderly, market women, and other members of the informal sector.
He stated, “More specifically, for pregnant women, under our Ibidero Scheme, we would provide free pre-natal care, an additional N5,000 per birth, and free post-natal care in our state hospitals and primary health care centers across the state.”
The governor also added that there would be the provision of food palliatives, including rice and other food items, for about 300,000 households across the state. Additionally, the government would begin to offset the backlog of inherited deductions with the immediate payment of N500 million.
