A philanthropist in Zamfara State, Yazeed Shehu Danfulani, has awarded scholarships to 200 female students of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Gusau in the state.
He said the gesture was for the benefitting students to pursue various NCE programmes of the College in the state.
Speaking on Sunday in Gusau during the presentation of admission letters and evidence of payment to the first batch of thirty five beneficiaries who got admission into the College, Co-ordinator of the program, Yusuf Muhammad MD, said all the tuition fees had been paid.
“So far,we have secured and paid all tuition fees for their studies, their scholarship will be fully funded and those who excelled will receive additional support to further their education.
“Admission for more than fifteen students would be ready next week as additional applications are being considered to fill the two hundred slots”, he disclosed.
Yusuf noted that the intervention is aimed at bridging the gap between males and females in terms of education, stressing the importance of women education to nation building.
“The scholarship will be extended to four other institutions of higher learning in Zamfara State where 200 newly-admitted students would be selected in each school,” Yusuf maintained.
Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, represented by the party’s Welfare Officer, Bashir Idris Ataka, applauded the sponsor for his foresight and commitment to educational development in the state.
He advised other politicians and wealthy individuals to emulate Yazeed Danfulani.
Others who delivered goodwill messages at the event described the sponsor as a role model and enjoined the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors by being disciplined and dedicated to their studies.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude over the scholarship and promised to work hard towards achieving academic excellence.
