The Commissioner of Police in Niger State, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, has directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers across the state to strengthen security around political campaigns and ensure that clashes between rival campaign activities are prevented.
Elleman gave the directive on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, during the Niger State Police Command’s strategic monthly conference with Heads of Departments, Area Commanders, and DPOs.
The meeting reviewed the state’s security situation, operational challenges and Force directives, with particular attention to political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The CP directed officers to provide adequate security for all political parties and professionally manage situations where campaign schedules overlap, stressing the need to prevent clashes, maintain public order and protect lives and property.
He also reviewed the recent intervention of the Inspector-General of Police in Borgu Local Government Area, where tactical teams and operational assets were deployed to reinforce security operations.
According to him, the increased police presence has contributed to a reduction in violent crime in the affected areas, a development he said had received public appreciation.
Elleman further directed DPOs to strengthen engagement with Farmers/Herders Committees in their respective areas, monitor their activities and submit comprehensive reports of such engagements to the Command.
The Commissioner also briefed senior officers on the outcome of the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO) 2026, held in Imo State from September 21 to 24.
He said the conference focused on election security management, electoral offences, cybercrime and other security concerns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Elleman subsequently directed officers to deepen their understanding of election-related offences and remain professional in handling political activities across the state.
He also reminded personnel of the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy, warning that violations would attract disciplinary action in line with established regulations.
As the ember months begin, the CP directed Area Commanders and DPOs to adopt proactive and intelligence-led policing strategies to prevent crime and respond promptly to emerging threats.
Ahead of the October 1 Independence Day celebrations, he ordered the deployment of adequate personnel and operational assets across Niger State to ensure peaceful and orderly celebrations.
Elleman charged officers to remain vigilant, professional and responsive to emerging security threats, while reiterating his commitment to strengthening intelligence-led policing, community partnership and operational effectiveness across the Command.
He urged personnel to remain committed to their constitutional responsibilities and the protection of lives and property throughout the state.
