The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has trained health facility officers and desk officers involved in the ABBACare Maternal Service Initiative as part of efforts to reduce preventable maternal deaths in the state.
The agency said the capacity-building programme was aimed at improving access to timely and quality maternal healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable women receiving antenatal care (ANC) under the ABBACare scheme.
The training, held at the KSCHMA Conference Hall on Thursday, focused on equipping participants with the skills to obtain authorisation codes and accurately prepare and submit fee-for-service claims for eligible ANC services.
Speaking at the training, the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr Rahila Aliyu Muktar, said strengthening frontline systems and personnel was critical to ensuring that eligible women receive appropriate healthcare without unnecessary delays.
She urged participants to adhere to established procedures, maintain proper documentation and ensure prompt and accurate claims processing.
“Every properly authorised and accurately processed claim represents a healthcare service delivered to a beneficiary. We must therefore strengthen our systems, improve accountability and build the capacity of our personnel to ensure that no preventable barrier stands between vulnerable women and the maternal healthcare services they need,” she said.
The training covered the applicable ANC claims process, required documentation and supporting evidence, as well as procedures for preparing and submitting claims.
Participants also took part in practical sessions on authorisation code requests, workflow requirements and claims documentation. Common errors in authorisation and claims processing were also examined, alongside measures to prevent them.
The programme ended with an interactive question-and-answer session and discussions on steps to improve operational efficiency.
KSCHMA said the initiative formed part of its commitment to translating the Kano First Healthcare Agenda into practical action through stronger healthcare systems, improved accountability and timely access to quality maternal healthcare for vulnerable women.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to continuous capacity development as part of efforts to strengthen the ABBACare system and contribute to reducing preventable maternal mortality in the state.
