Betta Edu: CCB summons Interior Minister over alleged N483m contract fraud

The Code of Conduct Bureau has reportedly summoned the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, over an alleged N483 million contract fraud at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

The development comes as New Planet Projects, a company founded by the minister, benefited from a consultancy contract with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation under Betta Edu before her suspension.

However, Tunji-Ojo, on a different forum, said he had resigned as director of the company. But the matter has continued to cause a stir among the public, instigating calls for his probe.

Consequently, a letter addressed to Tunji-Ojo revealed that the CCB had invited the minister for an investigation, asking him to appear on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the CCB Headquarters, Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja.

The letter was signed by the CCB Director, Investigation and Monitoring, Gwimi S.P., on behalf of the CCB Chairman, Murtala Aliyu.

“The Bureau is investigating a case of alleged breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers in which your name featured prominently. Consequently, you are invited for an interview scheduled as follows:

“Date: Tuesday, January 16 January, 2024. Time: 1100 hrs prompt. Venue: CCB Headquarters on 5th floor, Annex III, Phase I, Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja.

“This invitation is under the mandate and powers of the Bureau as enshrined in the Third Schedule, Part I, Paragraph 3 (e) to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. Please be properly guided,” the letter reads.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspended Betta Edu over alleged N585 million corruption a week ago.
