The Adamawa State Government, through the Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has concluded a three-day capacity building for frontline responders to health challenges.
The training was aimed at educating the frontline responders on Infection, Prevention and Control (IPC) on cholera and other diseases preparedness and response.
The training, which is powered by the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), had participants from all the primary healthcare facilities in Yola North Local Government Area.
According to Mr Patrick Akor, from the UNICEF Bauchi field office, the training is for Yola North Local Government Area because it is the most prone LGA in Adamawa State.
Adding that “though there is no case of cholera recorded so far, but last year it was in this LGA we had issues because of its location.”
There are other programmes being put together by the Adamawa State Government and UNICEF to address and prevent health challenges across the state.
Earlier, the Director, Disease Control and Infection in the Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr James Vasimu Jacob, said the training is one of the many proactive measures being taken by the state government to prevent and address any health challenges, particularly in times like this when diseases are prevalent because of flooding.

“Outbreaks are seasonal, so we equip frontline workers, particularly those in our local areas, on how to handle cases when they occur but most importantly on how to educate the locals on preventive measures.”
“We had this training in this LGA because in the two years or so, this was where we had a serious challenge on cholera; that is not to say that other LGAs’ responders are not being trained on IPC.”
Some of the participants expressed delight over the training, saying it will help them to prevent and control situations whenever they arise.
Participants were drawn from all PHC centres, including the Police, Army and other paramilitary healthcare centres in the local government area.
