The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTATH), Prof. Olusegun Ojo, has dismissed reports suggesting that the Federal Government has taken over the payment of salaries of the hospital’s entire workforce, describing such claims as a misrepresentation of the current salary arrangement.
The hospital management, in a statement issued and signed by the Head of the Public Relations Unit, Mr. Tope Fayehun, clarified that workers at the institution are currently divided into two categories following the hospital’s transition from a state-owned specialist hospital to a federal teaching hospital, with their salaries being paid by different tiers of government.
According to Fayehun, permanent staff inherited from the former state-owned hospital remain on the payroll of the Ondo State Government, which has continued to meet its salary obligations to the workers.
He explained that permanent staff inherited from the former state-owned hospital are still being paid by the Ondo State Government, while the Federal Government is responsible for the salaries of non-regular personnel recruited to sustain healthcare services during the transition period.
He said the Federal Government’s role is limited to the payment of salaries of non-regular personnel recruited to sustain the hospital’s operations and ensure uninterrupted healthcare service delivery during the transition to a federal institution.
The management stressed that recent comments attributed to the CMD had been taken out of context and were never intended to convey the impression that the Federal Government had assumed responsibility for the salaries of all categories of workers in the hospital.

“The Federal Government’s intervention specifically covers the remuneration of non-regular personnel engaged to support the hospital’s operations during the transition period, while the Ondo State Government continues to pay the salaries of permanent staff inherited from the former state-owned hospital,” the statement said.
It further explained that the existing salary arrangement is in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Federal Government and the Ondo State Government at the time the hospital was transferred to the Federal Government.
The management noted that both governments have continued to faithfully discharge their respective responsibilities under the agreement to guarantee the smooth running of the hospital pending the full implementation of the transition process.
It reaffirmed FUTATH’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the provision of quality healthcare services, adding that the institution remains focused on delivering efficient medical care, training health professionals, and advancing medical research in line with its mandate as a federal teaching hospital.
The management urged members of the public, staff, and other stakeholders to disregard any misinformation or misleading reports capable of creating unnecessary anxiety or misunderstanding about the hospital’s operations and the welfare of its workforce.
It also expressed appreciation to both the Federal Government and the Ondo State Government for their continued support and collaboration, saying such partnership has remained critical to the successful transition of the institution and the uninterrupted delivery of healthcare services to the people.
