Samsung Electronics and Globacom are stepping up efforts to capture Nigeria’s fast-growing premium smartphone market with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8.
The partnership, unveiled at a masterclass hosted at Gloworld in Opebi, Lagos, reflects the changing dynamics of Nigeria’s smartphone market, where manufacturers and telecom operators are increasingly competing for high-value customers who consume more data, adopt new technologies faster and are willing to pay for premium digital experiences. Both companies are bundling AI-powered hardware with connectivity, after-sales support and financing options to strengthen customer loyalty.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8 are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, delivering faster performance, enhanced Galaxy AI capabilities and improved multitasking. Samsung says the devices are designed to serve as both smartphones and productivity tools, enabling users to edit documents, create content, translate conversations, summarize notes and manage multiple applications simultaneously through AI-powered features.
Speaking during the unveiling, Solomon Osibeluwo, Samsung’s product manager for EIP and MNOs Business, said the collaboration with Globacom is helping bring Samsung’s latest innovations closer to Nigerian consumers.
“The Galaxy Z Fold8 introduces Samsung’s new passport-inspired design, making it slimmer, lighter and more portable. With enhanced display brightness, Vision Booster and anti-reflective technology, users get a superior viewing experience even in bright sunlight. Galaxy AI also helps users communicate better, create content faster and work more efficiently,” he said.
Nigeria remains one of Africa’s largest smartphone markets, but premium devices still account for a relatively small share of total sales because of high prices and weak consumer purchasing power. To overcome this challenge, smartphone makers are increasingly partnering with mobile network operators to offer bundled incentives such as free data, device protection, flexible payment plans and digital services that reduce the overall cost of ownership while encouraging greater data consumption.
Mohamed Rabie, director of Gloworld, said the partnership goes beyond introducing new devices by creating additional value for customers through exclusive connectivity benefits.
“We are thrilled to bring the new offer to our subscribers, who will enjoy different benefits, including free data. This partnership with Samsung reinforces our commitment to providing value-added services that cater to the evolving needs of our customers,” Rabie said.
He said customers can pre-order the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8 at Gloworld outlets nationwide between July 22 and August 20. Every pre-order includes 10GB of free Glo data every month for six months, a Glo eSIM with a Premium Number, Samsung Care+, flexible payment options and additional benefits worth up to N1 million.
The launch underscores a broader shift in Nigeria’s technology market, where artificial intelligence is becoming the defining feature of premium smartphones. As AI applications demand greater processing power and more reliable connectivity, partnerships between device manufacturers and telecom operators are expected to play a bigger role in expanding adoption, with operators gaining higher data usage while smartphone makers strengthen their foothold in the country’s lucrative high-end mobile segment.
