The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and other partners have pooled together N464 million worth of supplies to support the Bauchi State Government for the implementation of the first half of the 2026 Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Week, which began on Monday, June 29.
The disclosure was made by the Chief of Field Office, Bauchi Field Office of UNICEF, Dr Nuzhat Raffique, while speaking at the flag-off of the exercise at the UNICEF-supported Domiciliary Health Centre, Yelwa, Bauchi.
She said: “We at UNICEF are happy to be part of the transition from isolation to integrated campaign in Bauchi. And I am grateful to the Executive Chairman, BSPHCB, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed. I can’t see him here, but my gratitude and thanks to him. And a lot of thanks to Honourable Commissioner of Health who is here. Thank you very much for these great initiatives. And all is going to benefit the children of Bauchi.”
She added: “That is what UNICEF always aims for. And I am really grateful to the state government and Governor of Bauchi State, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi, the Deputy Governor, and his whole team, who are really working to get all the benefits for the children of Bauchi, and getting them the access to every right, the right to health, right to education, protection, everything, sanitation, WASH.”
According to her: “They are fighting at every front that the children of Bauchi can benefit comprehensively. And I am happy that this MNCH week is also an integrated effort to provide comprehensive health services to the children and mothers.”
The CFO stressed that: “UNICEF is very happy to be part of it. And as always, our WHO and other FHI partners, they are all with us. We are providing more than N464 million worth of supplies for this campaign. And there are blue vitamin A doses, 311,500, and red doses about 1.2 million. And I think these are going to cover a very good number of children in Bauchi who can be prevented from many diseases.”

She added: “HPV, as our colleague from the NCDC said, is very, very important for adolescents. It is the human papillomavirus vaccine that prevents such cancers. And this is very important for the generations to come, the mothers-to-be in future. And there are 35,000 doses of these vaccines provided by UNICEF, and they are going to the children, the girls of nine years preferably. So these are few numbers that are just reflecting the inputs from UNICEF in terms of supplies.”
She further said: “But our hearts, our souls, our prayers, and our technical support, our passion to serve the children of Bauchi is immeasurable. And we are all with you, and as a team we can do the best.”
Raffique urged mothers to take advantage of the campaign, saying: “I request my mothers, all the sisters who are mothers of small children, to please bring your children for all these services and come yourself as one. All pregnant women should come to the facilities and avail these services. And we are grateful for your participation, and everyone here, I am really grateful, and I wish all the best for these activities and all the prayers and best wishes for every child in Bauchi.”
