The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, has unveiled his vision for the state, promising quality infrastructure, transparent leadership, accountability and active citizen participation in governance.
In a statement titled “My Oyo Vision: Quality Infrastructure, Transparent Leadership, Accountability and Active Citizen Oversight,” Alli said quality infrastructure remains the foundation of sustainable development and economic growth.
According to him, roads, schools, hospitals, water facilities and other public assets are not merely projects but critical investments that must improve the lives of residents, stimulate economic activities, create jobs and enhance social welfare.
“As part of our commitment to building a prosperous, secure and economically vibrant Oyo State, I wish to reaffirm that quality infrastructure remains the backbone of sustainable development,” he said.
The APC governorship candidate stressed that infrastructure development should not be assessed solely by the number of projects commissioned but by their quality, durability, safety and long-term impact on the economy.
“Every kobo of public funds invested must deliver measurable value to taxpayers. The people of Oyo State deserve infrastructure built to the highest standards of engineering excellence, professionalism, transparency and accountability,” he stated.
Alli also underscored the importance of citizen participation in governance, noting that residents must go beyond attending project commissioning ceremonies and actively demand transparency and accountability.
“Citizens must continuously demand transparency and ask critical questions about whether projects are executed according to approved specifications, delivered within budget and capable of providing lasting benefits. Active citizen oversight is a powerful tool for promoting accountability and safeguarding public resources,” he said.
The senator called for stronger collaboration between government and stakeholders, including community leaders, professional bodies, transport unions, market associations, youth groups and civil society organisations, in monitoring public projects.
According to him, “such collaboration will strengthen accountability, improve project delivery and ensure that government remains responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people.”
Alli further maintained that contractors handling public projects must be held accountable for poor workmanship, negligence or failure to meet contractual obligations.
“Where public infrastructure fails due to poor workmanship, negligence or non-compliance with contractual obligations, contractors must be held fully accountable and compelled to remedy defects at their own expense,” the lawmaker stated.
The APC governorship candidate added that public officials responsible for supervising projects must also be transparent and accountable in carrying out their duties.
“Likewise, public officials entrusted with project supervision must be transparent in their actions and held responsible for ensuring strict adherence to quality standards and contractual requirements,” he said.
Outlining his administration’s priorities, Alli said his vision for Oyo State is anchored on transparency, accountability, excellence and responsible leadership.
“Under our administration, public procurement processes will be strengthened, independent quality assurance mechanisms institutionalised and infrastructure investments strategically aligned with the long-term development goals of our communities,” the senator said.
The APC governorship candidate added that his administration would prioritise projects that attract investment, promote trade, improve connectivity, strengthen security and expand access to quality social services.
He called on residents to remain vigilant and actively participate in the development of the state.
“Together, through responsible leadership, transparent governance and active citizenship, we can ensure that public resources are prudently managed, infrastructure investments are protected and sustainable development becomes a lasting reality for present and future generations,” Alli said.
