As part of efforts to ease the financial burden on civil servants, Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has launched the Sauki Shops Initiative, with a massive ₦757,205,535 million allocated for food and essential goods.
The newly established shops, stands as a symbol of relief, ensuring that government workers can access staple foods at subsidized rates.
Briefing newsmen shortly after the state executive council meeting, the state commissioner for information, Sambo Danchadi, said the government recognized that many sectors have already benefited from subsidies.
“The governor turned his focus to civil servants, introducing a system where commodities such as rice, maize, spaghetti and other necessities will be sold at prices 30% lower than the open market.
“To ensure fairness and accessibility, the government has introduced a scratch card payment system. Civil servants will load their cards, make purchases at the Sauki Shops, and have the amount deducted directly from their salary accounts.
“This initiative prevents hoarding and ensures that subsidies reach the intended beneficiaries”
Beyond affordable food, the state government has approved the purchase of nine ultrasound machines for key general hospitals across the state.
The hospitals include, Tambuwal General Hospital, Kebbe General Hospital, Illeila General Hospital, Gwadabawa General Hospital, Isa General Hospital, Tangaza General Hospital and WCWC Hospital in the Metropolis
“Additionally, road infrastructure is receiving a boost with the construction of a new bridge near the College of Education to improve traffic flow. Major roads, such as Airport Road, will also undergo asphalt laying, street lighting, and beautification”
Strengthening Religious and Educational Institutions
The administration remains committed to religious affairs, approving renovations for several Jumaat mosques, including:
Raudin Society of Nigeria Mosque (Hajiah Adima Estate, Sokoto)
Karare Jumaat Mosque (Goreng Local Government Area)
Similarly, Qur’anic schools such as the Maale Belu Maizuma Qur’anic School and the Maliki Jumaat Mosque Qur’anic School have been earmarked for renovation, ensuring improved learning environments for students.

With the launch of Sauki Shops, improved healthcare facilities, enhanced infrastructure, and strengthened religious institutions, the government of Shaban Suki is demonstrating its commitment to the welfare of its people.
This ₦757 million investment in essential goods marks a significant step toward making life more affordable for civil servants, reinforcing the administration’s dedication to economic relief and sustainable development in Sokoto.
