The people of Ilobu in Irepodun Local Government and the people of Ifon-Osun in Orolu Local Government of Osun State have engaged in allegations and counter-allegations over the killing of a polytechnic student.
A statement jointly signed by the president and Public Relations Officer of the Ilobu-Asake Development Union, Pastor Olufemi Salako and Mr Tairu Babatunde, on Thursday, alleged that hoodlums from Ifon-Osun killed a student of the Department of Computer Science, Westland Polytechnic, Ilobu.
They alleged that the hoodlums stormed Ganga and Oke-Ima areas on Thursday around 11am and started shooting at every living and non-living object they sighted. The student, whose identity was yet to be confirmed, fell victim to the shootings.
“We again reiterate our call on the Osun State Government to immediately summon Olufon to answer for these rounds of unprovoked attacks, maiming, killings, and destruction of numerous properties that we have been experiencing in the last four days. Our patience and endurance are being stretched to breaking point at these unchallenged bloodletting,” the statement added.
Responding on behalf of Ifon-Osun, Jide Akinyooye said the killing may have been perpetrated by the Ilobu killer gang.
“The gang has been going around causing carnage throughout the day before the curfew was imposed. We don’t know anything about the killing; our people don’t even go to that area because it is a buffer zone,” Akinyooye added.
