The Niger state police command said it has apprehended one Abubakar Sadiq of Pyata village in Bosso local government area of the state for alleged killing of a commercial motorcycle rider, Abdulrahman Isah.
The suspect had boarded the motorcycle from Berger junction in Bosso town to Maitumbi, a suburb of Minna the state capital but later deceived the deceased and diverted him to follow a lonely bye-pass as a shot cut.
According to the police public relation officer SP Wasiu Abiodun who confirmed the incident in a statement in Minna on Monday, mid-way into the journey, the suspect used a stone to hid his victim on his head, living him in a pool of his blood.
After killing him, he took the motorcycle away and later sold it to one Ibrahim Garba, a 35 years old motorcycle dealer at Beji market who again sold it to one Bala Usman of Wushishi town, in Wushishi local government area of the state at the rate of N310,000 (three hundred and ten thousand naira).
Wasiu stated further that the two receivers of the motorcycle were subsequently arrested and a sum of three hundred thousand naira was recovered from them
He disclosed that In the course of investigation, Abubakar Sadiq who is from the same Pyata village with the deceased was arrested in connection with the incident and he confessed to the crime, saying that he boarded the motorcycle from Berger junction Bosso to Maitumbi.
The suspect narrated further that while on their way, he deceived the rider and diverted him to follow a lonely path along Pyata-Maitumbi Bye-Pass road where he used a stone to hit the rider on the head.
Wasiu said all the suspects were still undergoing preliminary investigations at the Bosso division of the Nigerian police and will soon be transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
In another development, the command has also arrested three suspected notorious armed robbers and burglars in a hotel in Minna, the state capital.
Jibrin Ndako (19) of Barikin-Sale, Haruna Abubakar (20) of Angwan-Kamfani and Aliyu Abdullahi (18) Kpakungu, all in Minna, the state capital were arrested by the police operatives attached to Tudun Wada division, Minna.
The suspects according to the police public relation officer, were picked up from a hotel along Eastern Bye-Pass in Minna where they had lodged in a room preparatory to carry out their crime.
They were found in possession with dangerous weapons ranging from cutlasses and industrial iron cutter.
According to him, among the suspects was an ex-convict, Jibrin Ndako who had just returned from a jail term for the offence of theft of motorcycles.
He pointed out that Jibrin, during interrogation, narrated that he met his accomplices from Agaie and brought them to Minna to join him in breaking a targeted provision store located at Barikin-Sale Minna before their arrest by the Police.
He said all the suspects have been transferred to State Police Headquarters, Minna for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
