A 22-year-old private security guard, attached to the University of Ilorin, Idris Ibrahim Kayode, has been arrested by the operatives of the Kwara state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for vandalism.
In a statement by the command’s public relations officer, Ayoola Michael, he said that the suspect was arrested for vandalizing armoured cables used to power streetlights within the university community.
The command’s PPRO said that the arrest of the suspect was in line with its corps’ mandate to protect critical national assets and infrastructure and prosecute anyone caught vandalizing government assets.

He also said that Kayode was apprehended on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at about 01:33 am by local vigilantes, who caught him red-handed vandalizing the armoured cables.
He was promptly handed over to the NSCDC for further investigation and prosecution.
The statement said that the Kwara state NSCDC commandant, Dr. Umar Muhammed, has ordered further investigation into the matter, after which the suspect will be charged to court.
Commandant Umar also used the occasion to appeal to the people of Kwara state to assist the NSCDC and other security agencies in ridding the state of criminal elements and reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest security agencies.
