The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has advised the newly graduated nursing students of Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, to ensure they practice without compromising the ethics of the profession.
The Acting Registrar of the professional body, Alhassan Ndagi, gave the advice at their induction ceremony held on campus on Friday, December 6th.
The students, who are 16 in all, are the first set of graduates from the department in the history of the university.
While administering the oath of allegiance to them, the registrar, who was represented by an assistant director, Mrs. Chioma Chigbo, congratulated the inductees on the successful completion of their training, declaring that much is expected from them as they are now registered nurses.
According to him, “You are expected to adhere to the ethics of the profession, display humility and function independently but collaboratively with other healthcare practitioners anywhere you find yourself.

“I will also implore you to be open to learning, receive guidance and corrections from your senior colleagues and avoid unnecessary mistakes,” Ndagi further counselled.
In his address, Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Clement Kolawole expressed happiness over the induction of the nursing science graduates of the university into the professional body, congratulating them.
He pointed out that the nursing profession plays critical role in overall healthcare service delivery across the world and the inductees should therefore understand that “Nursing is not just a profession, but a calling that requires empathy, and a commitment to caring for others.
“So, I congratulate you all on this your attainment and I urge you to remain committed to the values of nursing, which are care, compassion, and kindness and also stay curious, keep learning and continue to strive for excellence as you progress because the world is awaiting the positive impact your work will have on the lives of people.”
