A non-governmental organisation, Lions International District 404B4 Ibadan Axis has offered free screening and diabetes awareness to residents of Ibadan.
The event which was held at Ago Tapa Primary Health Center, Mokola, Ibadan witnessed the attendance of aged men, women and youths.
The event which featured screening of beneficiaries on fasting blood sugar, random blood sugar and blood pressure also involved health talk on prevention and management of Diabetes.
Speaking at the event, Region 10 Chairperson, District 404B4, Femi Phillips stated that the creation of awareness on ailments such as Diabetes is very important in a bid to reduce diabetes in the society.
He added that some people felt they were healthy because they looked healthy without knowing their health status.
Phillips who was represented by the Region 404B4 secretary, Adedokun Adeyemo further added that the medical screening will help save people’s lives from untimely deaths.
He added that as diabetes is on the rise in the country, there is a need for everyone to undergo medical checkups.
Speaking at the event, General Practitioner, Dr Abimbola Ojediran educate the beneficiaries on the prevention and management of diabetes.
He described Diabetes as a silent killer which must be properly monitored by Diabetes patients.
He encouraged everyone to take care of their health and go for regular medical checkups.
Speaking on the purpose of the project, the chairperson of the Diabetes Awareness Committee, Olutayo Akintunde stated that Lions Club International has taken it upon itself as an association to support the needy and the less privileged.
He added that the event is an annual contribution of the club.
“It is our responsibility as a humanitarian organisation to contribute to the society, diabetes is our core project for this Lion year,” he said.
