The workers on the Jigawa state government payroll have been thrown into serious confusion as the governor of the state, Malam Umar Namadi, has denied approving the N70,000 minimum wage that was said to have been announced by his Senior Special Adviser on Salary and Pension, Mr. Ado Kazaure.
Reports from the state indicated that the civil servants were extremely happy and took to social media to express their gratitude to the governor after the story broke on Thursday, the 10th of this month.
However, the civil servants became confused and disappointed when an audio message, purportedly from the Senior Special Adviser on Salary and Pension, Mr. Kazaure, retracted and denied the governor’s approval.
When contacted by Tribune Online to authenticate the audio clip in which Mr Kazaure, denied approving the N70,000 minimum wage, he confirmed the authenticity of the audio clip, including his voice and its content.
According to Mr Kazaure “Yes it is true, I’m the one talking. For you to hear it from the Radio Jigawa (state own Radio station) it’s proved to you I’m the one”.
He than declined to comment further and quickly cuts off the call.
Finding revealed that the SSA to the governor has said to have announced the governor’s N70,000 minimum wage to impressed the people in the state and workers in particular to convince them in voting the ruling APC in the local government councils elections.
Speaking to this medium, some civil servant expressed their disappointment on the government action, said “this is a serious deceit”.
All the civil servants who spoke to Tribune Online requested anonymity and accused the state government of being harsh and lacking concern for the common man. “This is wickedness,” they stated.
