The Department of State Services(DSS), has released six persons arrested and detained for their role in the recent #EndBadGovernance protests in the country.
Security sources, said the six persons held in Kaduna State, were set free last Thursday on the orders of the Director General of the service, Adeola Ajayi.
However, three other suspects are still in custody and awaiting prosecution having been found culpable to have committed criminal offences during the protest.
A security source who spoke on the condition of anonymity told Daily Sun,that,”the Director General of the DSS on September 19, 2024, directed the immediate release of protesters who were arrested for their various roles during the protests.
The source hinted that those released commended the gesture and expressed optimism on the humane face with which the Service conducted the investigation.
The source said,”For instance,it was revealed that six persons held in Kaduna had regained freedom having been cleared at the end of investigations. Meanwhile, three are being prosecuted for established prima facie cases.
“The DSS reiterates citizen’s right to peaceful protest as enshrined in the constitution and regard for the rule of law”.
However, the source added that he is resolute on upholding the mandate of the Service of decisively investigating and bringing to justice those who exploit such rights to perpetrate crime.
