The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has disclosed that 67 artisanal and suspected illegal miners were detained in a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps cell before 37 of them died in custody.
President Bola Tinubu has also ordered the prosecution of officials found to have contributed to the deaths of the miners, directing a full and transparent investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, entertainer Charly Boy celebrated his daughter Adaeze’s engagement to her female partner, while actress Toyin Abraham distanced herself from the Lagos APC campaign council. Supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso were also reportedly attacked during a campaign rally in Warri.

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, disclosed that 67 artisanal and suspected illegal miners were detained in an NSCDC cell before 37 of them died in custody.
The miners were arrested during NSCDC operations in the M.I. Wushishi and Lukoto areas of Niger State on September 15 and 16, 2026.

2. Tinubu orders prosecution of officials linked to Niger miners’ deaths
President Bola Tinubu ordered a full and transparent investigation into the deaths of suspected illegal miners in NSCDC custody in Niger State.
He directed that officials found to have contributed to the deaths be arrested and prosecuted.

Suspected thugs allegedly disrupted a campaign rally involving supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, in Warri, Delta State.
The incident was brought to public attention by Esther Umoh, identified as a photographer associated with Obi, who alleged in an X post that politically sponsored thugs had attacked members of the campaign group.

5. 2027: Toyin Abraham distances self from Lagos APC campaign council
Actress Toyin Abraham rejected her inclusion in the Lagos State All Progressives Congress Campaign Council, saying she was “staying out of politics” and asking the public to disregard her reported membership of the council.
Abraham was listed as a member of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate of the campaign council unveiled by the Lagos APC on Thursday ahead of the 2027 elections.
