Nine transport unions in Ogun State have endorsed the candidacy of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for governor in the 2027 general election.
The unions, under the umbrella of the Ogun State Transport Unions Alliance for Yayi, comprise the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the Amalgamated Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners, Repairers and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), the Tricycles Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (TORAN), the Three Wheeler Owners and Riders Association (TWORA), the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), the Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN), Parks and Management Services Limited (PAM), ROTO and ROMO. They said the APC governorship candidate had demonstrated the capacity and competence to administer the state.
The unions also endorsed the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and all APC candidates in the forthcoming elections. They said their decision to support the party’s candidates was based on their assessment that Tinubu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun had performed creditably under the APC’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The unions stressed that Senator Adeola was the right choice for governor, citing his demonstrated ability to govern and the projects he had undertaken even before being elected to the position.
“Our governor has done excellently well for the transport sector with the construction of over 1,000 roads and the completion of Gateway Cargo Airport, which is operational. Senator Adeola has also done over 200 internal roads to complement those of the state government. Our endorsement is based on these achievements,” they stated.
Presenting a large endorsement plaque to Senator Adeola and his deputy, Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun, Comrade Olamilekan Akanbi, chairman of PAM, said the endorsement was based on Adeola’s demonstrated competence and capacity to govern Ogun State, as well as the promise of continuity in the work of Prince Abiodun’s administration.
Senator Adeola thanked the transport unions for what he described as an unprecedented endorsement of his candidacy and those of other APC candidates. He stressed that the unions played a critical role in the state’s economic growth through their work.
He promised not to take their support and endorsement for granted, adding that the transport sector featured prominently in his nine-point ITESIWAJU Agenda for Ogun State, which includes critical infrastructure projects to support the sector’s growth.
Governor Abiodun also commended the transport unions for maintaining peace and moving away from their previously rancorous and violent disposition to form a united and well-organised alliance that played a critical role in the affairs of the state. He added that, with their support and votes, Ogun State would deliver two million votes for the President in the presidential election.
He said his administration had constructed more than 1,000 roads across the state, with more still under construction. He stressed that the state’s transport system would continue to be developed to improve efficiency and benefit residents.
The endorsement ceremony was attended by the state’s Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele; Senator Lekan Mustapha; the Director-General of the APC Campaign Council in Ogun State, High Chief Bode Mustapha; the Osi of Egbaland, Rt. Hon. Titi Oseni Shodunke; former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Bukola Olopade; the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Taiwo Oludotun; the Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry; and all APC candidates for the federal and state legislatures.
