The National Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Bauchi State for the 2027 general elections, Barr. Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, has resigned his membership of the party with immediate effect.
Kashim announced his resignation in a letter dated October 16, 2026, addressed to the NDC chairman in Bauchi Local Government Area and made available to journalists in Bauchi on Monday.
He said his decision followed careful consideration and was based on personal reasons.
“I hereby formally tender my resignation from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), effective from the date of this letter,” he stated.

He expressed appreciation to the party’s leadership and members for the opportunity to be associated with the NDC.
“This decision has been taken after careful consideration and is a matter of personal choice. I wish to express my appreciation to the party leadership and members for the opportunity to have been associated with the NDC,” he said.
Kashim also requested that the party acknowledge his resignation and update its records accordingly.
“I respectfully request that my resignation be acknowledged and that the necessary records be updated accordingly. Please accept the assurances of my highest regards,” he urged.
Kashim, a former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government under Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration, was among the 15 governorship candidates recently listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2027 general elections in the state.
The NDC had presented Kashim as its governorship candidate, with Tata Alhaji as his running mate, for the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election.
In a message to his supporters and the people of Bauchi State, Kashim confirmed his resignation and said it would not affect his commitment to the state’s development.
“My dear supporters, brothers and sisters, and the good people of Bauchi State, I wish to formally inform you that I have resigned my membership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), effective 16th October 2026. This decision, which follows careful reflection, does not in any way diminish my commitment to the political struggle for a better Bauchi State.”
He said he remained committed to promoting purposeful leadership, economic growth, opportunities for young people and women, improved security and better living conditions for residents.
“My conviction remains that our dear state deserves purposeful leadership, a stronger economy, greater opportunities for our youths and women, improved security, and a future in which every citizen can live with dignity and hope.”
Kashim added that his political journey was not over and pledged to continue working with individuals and groups who shared his vision for Bauchi State.
“Our political journey is far from over, and our commitment to the rescue and development of Bauchi State remains unwavering. We shall continue to engage constructively with all well-meaning individuals and groups who share our vision of a peaceful, prosperous, and economically vibrant Bauchi.”
He said he would announce the next phase of his political journey in due course, urging his supporters to remain calm and united.
“In due course, we shall communicate to you the next phase of our struggle and the direction we intend to take. Until then, I urge you to remain calm, steadfast, and united in our collective determination to build the Bauchi State of our dreams. Our mission is bigger than any political party; it is about the future of our people and the destiny of our state and Country.”
