The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has constituted its National Election Mobilisation Committee to drive sensitisation, mobilisation and monitoring of student participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday addressed to Nigerian students.
Afeez said Nigerian students, with a membership strength of over 40.1 million, constituted a significant voting bloc and major stakeholders in nation-building who could not afford to be indifferent to the democratic process.
“As a body of intellectuals and future leaders, we strongly believe that one of the most important ways citizens can contribute to the democratic process is through informed and active participation in elections. Therefore, our firm resolve is to encourage Nigerian students to participate actively and responsibly in the forthcoming 2027 General Elections,” he said.
He said the committee would coordinate sensitisation and mobilisation activities across the six geopolitical zones and work with NANS structures, Students’ Union Governments (SUGs) and other stakeholders across campuses.
According to the statement, the national leadership of the committee has the NANS President as Director-General, the NANS Senate President as Deputy Director, Olusola Oladoja as National Coordinator, Gambo Abubakar as National Deputy Coordinator and Charles Obina Ebube as National Public Relations Officer.
