Borno Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced that his administration invested $2.9 billion in the state’s recovery and stability.
Zulum made this disclosure at the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum, where he noted that there is a need for strategic collaborative efforts among stakeholders to address the region’s complex challenges and forge a unified African approach.
According to him,“This forum has provided a crucial platform for strategic discussions aimed at ensuring stability in the Lake Chad region.
“Our collective goal is to shape a cohesive African political will and effectively address the issues confronting us.”
Zulum stressed Borno State’s dedication to ongoing dialogue with stakeholders on regional stabilisation and recovery, recognising the unique challenges facing the area.
He identified food security as a critical priority, alongside concerted efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change and develop effective disaster response mechanisms.
“Food security is a paramount concern, alongside our focus on responding to the challenges of climate change and establishing robust mechanisms to lessen the impact of climate-related disasters.”
The governor announced the significant $2.9 billion investment, designated for rehabilitation, resettlement, and reconstruction initiatives.
He explained the vital role of partnerships with UN agencies in providing livelihood support to rebuild communities ravaged by Boko Haram conflict.
“Borno State has committed $2.9 billion to these efforts, prioritising rehabilitation, resettlement, and reconstruction,” he explained.
“Our collaboration with UN agencies is essential for delivering livelihood support and rebuilding affected communities.”

He acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima for their support of the forum’s mission to secure lasting peace.
He recognised their financial backing, which has enabled the state government to procure food, essential items, and shelter for internally displaced persons (IDPs).
“We appreciate the support of our partners within Africa and internationally, as well as the countries that have generously donated and shared their expertise towards achieving peace, security, and sustainable development,” Zulum said.
