The Zamfara State commissioner of Women, Children and Social Development, Dr Nafisa Muhammad Maradun has emphasised the importance of child protection law, saying that her ministry will not be function as required without the child protection statute.
This was disclosed by the commissioner Zamfara state ministry of women, children and social development during a five-day workshop on child protection law implementation strategy organized
in collaboration with UNICEF.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the information officer Zamfara ministry of women, children and social development Suleiman Isah said the workshop, which is currently taking place at Hotel 17 in Kaduna is aimed at drafting the implementation strategy/plan for the Zamfara State Child Protection Law, inaugurate the state implementation committee for the child protection law, and draft the Zamfara law implementation committee’s terms of reference.
He said other aims of the workshop included identifying the resources and infrastructure required for proper legislation, implementation, as well as identifying key areas offered by child protection legislation for better comprehension and improving the inter-sectoral collaboration framework among all relevant stakeholders in the state.

“The Commissioner for Women, Children, and Social Development, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun emphasised the commitment of Governor Dauda Lawal administration in ensuring long-term child protection laws for the safety of children.
”As the state’s custodian of children, the Ministry of Women, Children,and Social Development will not be able to function without the child protection statute, given its importance.”
Earlier , the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Habibu Yalwa, commended UNICEF for supporting the state government in developing the implementation strategy for the child protection law.
He urged the participants of the workshop to contribute significantly to brainstorming and make the most of what they learned during the conference.
In his message, child protection specialist UNICEF sokoto,kebbi and zamfara, Puis Nwamanua said
Zamfara state is please to be a part of the process of developing an implementation plan for the Zamfara State Child Protection law, UNICEF as been on the fore front in the promotion of improving the total wellbeing of Children in Zamfara State.
He added that implementation plan will spell out the roles of different government ministries, departments, agencies as well as CSOs in providing services for children in Zamfara State.
“We implore all stakeholders to collaborate for a fruitful deliberation and internationally accepted plan.”
