The Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has warned staff of the commission against engaging in any form of illegality.
She warned that any staff of the Commission that tried to work with illegal perpetrators will face a disciplinary committee, according to the provisions of the existing laws.
The DG, who addressed journalists during a media interaction at NIMC head office in Abuja on Friday, also said she would ensure that people do not waste the entire day to solve little issues at NIMC offices.
“I will not allow that to continue to happen. We will provide all necessary means to address the issue,” she said.
“We want to ensure that life is easy and seamless. One should not spend three to four hours in the NIMC office because of NIN services.”
She added, “Any staff of NIMC that tries to work with illegal perpetrators will face disciplinary committee and be tried according to the Cybercrime Act 2015 and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Same with any illegal perpetrators.”
Speaking further, the DG announced that the Commission would be considering upward review of some of its rates.
“We are going to review our rate. It is not going to be much, but it will be reviewed. We have not reviewed our rate for a long time. It is not going to be exorbitant,” she added.
