Yoruba group worries over kidnappings in South West

The Yoruba Youth Socio-Cultural Association (YYSA) has expressed worry over increasing incidents of kidnapping in the South-West, in recent times.

The group in a statement by its President, Olalekan Hammed and Secretary, Olawale Ajao, tasked Southwest governors to reinvigorate efforts to arrest the tide.

It acknowledged the role of the Amotekun, but said there was the urgent need to re-equip the outfit for effective service delivery.

In particular, the group stressed that the Amotekun personnel needed re-training on intelligence gathering and anti-terror fighting.

The statement read: “The umbrella body of Yoruba youth groups, Yoruba Youth Socio-Cultural Association ( YYSA) is highly perturbed with the alarming rate of kidnapping in the Southwest region and the entire country.

“There’s no doubt, Nigeria as a nation is again falling into the unrest situation that had been experienced in the last eight years of the previous administration.

“Besides that, it seems as if our southwestern network security outfit known as Amotekun is not as effective as before.

“There’s an urgent need to re-equip them for effective service delivery if we are truly  serious about ensuring peace in our region.

“Intelligence gathering is also another aspect our governors must look into. Amotekun officers must be trained and retrained regularly because updates will go a long way in improving their skills in anti-terror fighting.

“We implore Southwest governors to do the needful on time as Kidnapping is terribly increasing day by day.”
