Following a recent fire outbreak at the new female hostel of Yobe State University, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Mala Mohammed Daura, has reassured parents and guardians of the well-being of their children at the university.
Daura made this statement while briefing journalists on Friday about the university’s status after the inferno that engulfed the entire new female hostel, accommodating approximately 195 students.
He stated that the university management, through its committee, is providing all necessary support to the students affected by the disaster.
The Professor commended the transparency of the committee and its regular reporting to the Vice Chancellor’s office on a daily basis regarding the situation and the affected students.
“The place where the students are residing now cannot be permanent accommodations, we are looking forward to permanent accommodations for them.
“We have a building that has not been completed, so we went and made a survey and proposal to the state government to complete the construction of that building,” Daura said.
The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that the university has received support from various entities, including government, non-governmental organizations, investment companies, ministries, the state Assembly, the National Assembly, corporate organizations, and individuals.
He mentioned that the university management has provided over one thousand pieces of notebooks and writing materials to the affected students.
The management is also providing condiments and ingredients for cooking food three times a day, while the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has provided the foodstuffs.
Daura expressed gratitude to the state fire service, security personnel, and members of the communities for their assistance and support during and after the incident.
