Yobe State Police Command has warned against the recent surge of misinformation regarding security threats in the state.

The Command in a statement through its Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim indicated that spreading false information can lead to panic, disrupt public peace, and compromise security.

It added that this affects businesses, social gatherings, and peaceful coexistence within
communities.

“Sharing false information that can cause panic or disturb public peace is considered a breach of security and can lead to prosecution under the offense of disturbance of public peace”, he said.

The Command advised members of the public to be cautious when sharing information on social media or through other channels as well as verify information through official channels before sharing.

“By working together, we can create a safer and more secure environment for everyone in Yobe State”, he said.
