Yobe State government has said it has intensified efforts to finding a lasting solution to the recurring floods and other natural disasters across the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Baba Mallam Wali, stated this during an engagement with stakeholders, as well as the representatives of Enviplan International Limited on the proposed Nguru Flood Control project.
He said Governor Buni had mandated his office to develop modalities to ease the suffering of communities around floodplain areas.
“Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration has demonstrated its commitment to addressing the flood incidences in the state,”
“To achieve this goal, the ACReSAL project has been directed to address the flood problem not only in Nguru Local Government but also across many other places”, Wali said.
The Project Coordinator, Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes, (ACReSAL), in Yobe state, Shehu Alhaji Mohammed, revealed that Enviplan consulting firm has been engaged to provide a conceptual study for the project design.
According to him, the Damaturu/Buni-yadi gully erosion control projects has been approved by the World Bank, and a groundbreaking ceremony was scheduled for Monday, adding that the ceremony was expected to be attended by the State Governor, the World Bank Team, and the Federal Project Management Unit.
During the meeting, the consultants presented three proposed options for the Nguru Flood Control project.
Meanwhile, the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, had directed the consulting firm to collaborate with ACReSAL’s and YOGIS’ technical teams to determine the best option.
