Yobe Gov, Buni calls for calm, enhanced security

Following a protest staged by commercial tricycle operators on Tuesday disrupting social and economic activities in Damaturu, Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has called for calm.

He urged the citizens to utilise all established channels for addressing grievances rather than taking matters into their own hands by breaching the peace.

The governor emphasised the significance of working within the framework of the law and respecting constituted authorities, warning against any actions that could potentially disrupt public peace in the state.

The governor emphasised that the government will not compromise the safety and security of its citizens under any circumstances.

According to a statement by the Director General of Media and Press Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Muhammad, the Governor expressed his concerns about the Tuesday protest.

While highlighting the need to protect the hard-earned peace and harmony enjoyed in the state, he acknowledged the challenges faced in the past and stressed the importance of avoiding any issues that could jeopardise the progress made in restoring security.

Mai Mala Buni addressed organisations and associations, calling on parents and guardians to educate their children about the dangers of causing disorder and disrupting public peace.

He made it clear that the government would take decisive action against anyone who posed a threat to public peace.

In line with these concerns, the Governor has directed the Secretary to the State Government, Alh. Baba Malam Wali, as well as the heads of security agencies, Yobe State Road Transport Agency (YOROTA), and the leadership of the Tricycle (Keke NAPEP) Commercial Operators Association to collaborate and develop comprehensive security measures.

These measures should address any existing differences between Keke Napep operators, YOROTA, and security agencies, with the aim of enhancing safety and promoting harmony among road users and regulators.

The governor stressed that the state government is committed to ensuring the security and well-being of its citizens by fostering cooperation and implementing effective security measures.

The government aims to maintain the relative peace and stability that have been achieved in the state.
