In a move to enhance infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Minister, Nyesom Wike, announced the reconstruction of the Dei-Dei Market Road to Life Camp during the commissioning of a new access road in Saburi communities.
This initiative aims to restore the market’s status as an international hub.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Press, Office of the Minister, Anthony Ogunleye, “Mr. President has directed that this Dei-Dei Market Road be reconstructed to Life Camp so that the market can regain its international standard,” Wike stated.
He assured residents that construction would commence within a month and be completed by the end of the year. “We will flag it off soon, and I can assure you, by this time next year, we’ll be back to commission it,” he added.
During the event, Wike expressed gratitude to the residents for their support and patience. “You have really seen that indeed there is a Renewed Hope,” he remarked, acknowledging that previous administrations had left them disillusioned.
He emphasized his administration’s commitment to developing every part of Abuja, stating, “Since January 20, we have visited all area councils; every area council will have at least one road project in the 2025 budget.”
The Minister also highlighted improvements in community safety and infrastructure, including the installation of streetlights along the newly constructed roads. “I have told the coordinator to ensure that streetlights are included in all these roads,” he noted.
Local residents expressed their appreciation for the recent developments.
Emmanuel Ogboh, a shop owner, remarked, “Businesses have improved due to increased vehicular movement since the construction of the road.” Justina Ocheche, who sells bean cakes, echoed this sentiment: “The dust and mud are gone; we are experiencing significant patronage now.”
Village head Muhammad Yamawo described the road project as a “new bride,” saying, “This road is like someone who has never gotten married; when he finally does, he feels like the whole world belongs to him.” He commended Wike for addressing long-standing infrastructural issues and for initiating plans for a police station and hospital in Saburi.
AMAC Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, praised Wike’s leadership and his commitment to community development. “Your chairman has shown capacity… It would be unfair not to reward his effort,” Wike said while promising additional projects in future budgets.
In closing, Wike appealed for patience from residents as his administration works to overcome challenges facing Nigeria. “I appeal to you, just be patient with the administration of President Ahmed Tinubu; you will see that we are committed to making Nigeria a better country,” he urged.
As excitement builds in Saburi and surrounding areas over these developments, residents remain hopeful for continued improvements under Wike’s leadership.
