The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG has appointed a new pastor, Kayode Pitan to replace pastor Idowu Iluyomade at the City of David Parish in Lagos.
Church Times reports that Pitan was appointed by the church governing council, during the just-concluded RCCG convention.
The appointment marks the end of Iluyomade’s tenure at City of David parish.
Arogidigba Global Journal reports that the replacement followed the public outcry over the extravagant 60th birthday party of pastor Iluyomade’s wife, Siju Iluyomade, which came a few days after the tragic death of former CEO of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe, a prominent member of the church.
A video from the extravagant party showed popular Nigerian high-life singer, Flavour N’abania, serenading Siju with his hit songs, such as Ada Ada, Berna and Adamma.
Reacting to the clip, some netizens questioned the timing of the ceremony and the presence of Flavour, a secular musician at a party hosted by a pastor.
Following the criticism, in June 2024, the Governing Council of the church suspended Iluyomade for three months and replaced him with Pastor Charles Kpandei of RCCG Resurrection Parish.
Pastor Pitan will succeed Pastor Charles Kpandei, who has been serving as the interim pastor following the suspension of Iluyomade in June.
Prior to his new role, Pitan was the Pastor in Charge of the Tabernacle of David in Region 51 and also served as the Regional Pastor.
