Muhammad Bello Bakyasuwa, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Zamfara State, has explained the reasons behind the party’s disunity, attributing it to a lack of competent leadership, which has led to instability and various factions in the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Gusau, Hon. Bakyasuwa elaborated on why APC members within Senator Kabiru Garba Mafara’s faction lack confidence in the leadership of the two former governors of the state, Bello Matawalle and Sen. Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari.
Bakyasuwa, a former Director of Security Affairs and immediate commandant of the Zamfara Anti-Thuggery Agency under Gov. Bello Matawalle’s administration, noted that selfishness was a major reason behind the party’s failure in the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.
“Matawalle’s appointment as Minister of State for Defence did not yield any positive impact for the state, especially in addressing the lingering security challenges,” he stated.
“Yari, as a prominent figure in the Senate, has not sufficiently prioritised the state’s interests, instead focusing on his own political agenda,” Bakyasuwa lamented.
He criticised the two APC leaders in the federal government for their ineffective performance and failure to meet the expectations of the populace in addressing the state’s security challenges.
“As far as I am concerned, Zamfara has no valid representation in the Tinubu-led APC administration.”
“Zamfara is one of the states in Northern Nigeria that massively voted for President Bola Ahmad Tinubu in the 2023 elections, largely due to the efforts of Presidential Campaign Coordinator, Sen. Kabiru Marafa.”
“Despite Sen. Marafa’s contributions to the APC’s victory in the 2023 Presidential Elections in the state, some selfish and incompetent politicians have misused the opportunity to represent the state in the Federal Government.”
“The so-called APC leadership in the state, under Tukur Umar Danfulani, lacks the capacity to effectively manage the party and ensure future electoral victories in the state.”
“Tukur Danfulani is not a legitimate member of the party, having been dismissed by the Galadima APC Ward Executives in Gusau Local Government Area.”
“I am perplexed as to how a dismissed party member can continue to parade himself as the party chairman in the state.”
According to him, only Sen. Marafa’s leadership group within the APC can lead the party to victory in the 2027 general elections.
“I believe Senator Marafa’s APC leadership group is well capable of promoting peace, unity, and stability within the party,” he assured.
