The Jigawa State Government said the delay in the commencement of Ramadan feeding programme was due to procurement processes and ensuring that due processes were followed accordingly.
Commissioner of Special Duties Auwal D. Sankara disclosed this in a statement issued to Arogidigba Global Journal.
The Jigawa State Executive Council had earlier approved over N1 billion for feeding at least 300 people in each of the 609 Iftar feeding centres as well as in 10 tertiary education institutions in the state during the Ramadan period.
According to the statement: “This is to sincerely apologise for the slight delay in the kick off of the Ramadan Iftar Feeding Program. The delay was due to necessary procurement processes and ensuring that all due processes were followed accordingly.
“However, I am pleased to inform you that all is now set for the feeding programme to commence on Friday, 12th of Ramadan, 1445AH, which is equivalent to 22nd March, 2024.”
He explained that the implementation plan includes the appointment of main vendors or contractors for each of the 27 LGAs, as well as sub-vendors for the 609 Iftar centres.
The commissioner, therefore, urged all stakeholders to support and cooperate with government in its efforts to provide essential support to those in need during this holy month.
