Team Nigeria will not advance to the final stage at the Paris Olympic Games due to a disqualification from the 4x400m men’s relay final.
The development comes after the quartet of Emmanuel Ojeli, Ezekiel Nathaniel, Dubem Amene and Chidi Okezie finished heat 2 with a Season’s Best time of 2 minutes 59.81 seconds.
France emerged as the winner of the race with a time of 2 minutes 59.53 seconds while Belgium took third position, clinching the third automatic spot in 2 minutes 59.84 seconds.
Unfortunately, the judges observed that the Nigerian runners crossed lanes and that led to the tripping of a South African runner. Consequently, the spot won by Nigeria has been given to South Africa.
Daily Sun reported that Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan lost out on automatic qualification on Friday in the Paris Olympics by finishing third in heat 1 of the women’s 100m hurdles semi-final.
Amusan clocked 12.55 seconds to place third and would now have to hope she makes it as one of the best losers for a chance in the final.
