Why Darkoo’s music video was deleted from YouTube

Peter Okoye, aka Mr P, formerly of P-Square, has described as false the claim by rising singer, Oluwafisayo Isa, popularly known as Darkoo, that the video for her new song titled, ‘Focus on Me’, was taken down from YouTube in order to sabotage her.

In a statement sent to PUNCH Online, on Monday, by his handlers — One Management— Mr P stated that he only insisted on things being done the right way.

In a tweet over the weekend, Darkoo said, “My music video was taken down for six days by Peter of P-SQUARE in an attempt to completely sabotage the song. I have all the necessary clearance for the sample.”

The statement, which was signed by Ayo Oke of One Management, added that Darkoo was trying to “capitalise on the supposed P-Square feud for popularity, clout and trend” to promote her new song.

Explaining its side of the matter, the statement read in part, “Darkoo approached our client to assist in clearing her song, which sampled one of P-Square’s hit songs, ‘Gimme Dat,’ after recording and putting the song on social media claiming it was ‘gaining traction on Tiktok’.

“As one who has always supported younger artistes, Mr. P guided her on the proper channel to get the sample cleared and even shared his own experience in a similar situation when there were challenges.

“Darkoo then offered Mr P a feature in the remix, saying she would want to shoot the video soon. Mr P told her his schedule was packed in December, hence, he doubted his availability.”

The statement added that “Based on the current dynamic of P-Square”, Darkoo was told to get clearance to use the sample through the proper channel to avoid any misleading assumptions on her part and to avert any IP landmines.

It continued, “Darkoo mentioned that her team was handling it and had reached out to Northside Entertainment. Our client promptly informed her that Northside is not the proper channel and it would be best to have her team reach out to his management who would put her in touch with the current administrators of P-Square’s catalogue and ensure that all stakeholders are aware of this development.”

The statement further stated that Mr. P then shared his manager’s details with Darkoo, to aid in directing her team to the administrators, but she (Darkoo) and her team allegedly ignored messages and calls to her to find out if she had been able to get the needed clearance.

It continued, “The music video was released on January 2, 2025, on the popular video-sharing platform (YouTube) and ONE Management reached out to Darkoo and her team to find out how the song was released without due process. We even gave a grace period of 72 hours before requesting a takedown, to avoid issues with clearance from the other stakeholders in the P-Square mix. Unknown to us, Darkoo and her team had signed a visibly flawed document under the wrong entity and authorisation.

“The issue was finally resolved with a proper agreement between all parties involved, executing the contract and not just one person or a non-existent entity – all at Mr P’s insistence. Immediately after the document was perfected, ONE Management requested the video be reinstated on the video-sharing platform.”

The statement also noted that Darkoo did not “rant about a disservice or sabotage when the video was taken down, rather she reached out to Mr P to salvage the situation but she suddenly found her voice once the video was reinstated on the video-sharing platform.”

In conclusion, the statement insisted that the initial 50 per cent (revenue from the song) split was requested by the individual Darkoo approached initially and was not a request from Mr P, noting that her (Darkoo’s) rant was malicious and a deliberate attempt to portray him (Mr P) in a bad light.
