Adamawa State Governor and the Chairman of the PDP Edo State Governorship Campaign Council, Ahmadu Umar Fintiri, has reiterated his party’s determination to secure victory in the Edo State Governorship election slated for September 21, 2024.
Fintiri made the statement during the maiden meeting of his Council, which was held at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja on Saturday.
Despite the court judgment on the party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, being a temporary setback, Fintiri stated that the party would not be deterred and would appeal the judgment.

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja voided the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Edo State that produced Ighodalo as its candidate. The election conducted on February 22, 2024, was voided on the grounds that 378 delegates who were supposed to vote at the primary election were unlawfully excluded by the PDP. Justice Ekwo nullified the primary election while delivering judgment in a suit instituted by the aggrieved delegates.
Fintiri said the party is determined to come out victorious during the September poll and urged everyone to work together to propel the party’s candidate to victory.
“The assignment is not easy. It’s tasking and demands that we put everything in place to make him (Ighodalo) win. There’s no second position in an election. You either win or lose. We are here to win.
“The court judgment, no doubt, is a temporary setback, but it won’t deter us. We’ll appeal. It demands that we put in more work and put our detractors to shame.”
