The Senate President, Senator Goodwill Akpabio, has promised that the 10th Senate will make laws that would promote health needs of the Nigerians, especially the less privileged.
The Senate President who is representing Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in the National Assembly, made the promise on Saturday, while flagging off Free Medical Outreach for the Senatorial District and Akwa Ibom State in general, tagged: The Renewed Hope Medical Outreach”.
The Outreach which is a collaboration between the Senate President and the President of the Federal Republic, Bola Tinubu, according to Akpabio, will be taken to designated centers within the 10 LGAs of Akwa Ibom North West District.
Addressing the crowd of rural beneficiaries at Ikot Ekpene Plaza venue for the event, Akpabio who was represented at the event by the Deputy Chief of staff to the Senate President, Dr. Saviour Enyekere noted that free medical outreach is meant for those who are unable to afford regular medical services hence the decision to initiate the Outreach for the rural populace.
Coming barely two days to his 2024 birthday, the Senate President said he will ensure that no one who needs medical attention is left out of the free services, hence the decision to take it to the 10 LGAs of the District.
“I promised to bring dividends of democracy to my people while I was campaigning for their votes, this is one of the fulfillment of such promises.
The outreach will last for the next few weeks and will be taken to designated centers in the 10 LGAs Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District. Free Medical Outreach is meant for less privileged and vulnerable persons who cannot afford regular medical bills.
“The 10th Assembly will ensure that laws are made to support health needs of the people, especially those in the rural communities.
“I want to urge beneficiaries to provide accurate information concerning their health condition to avoid unnecessary emergency situations,” Akpabio explained.
Enyekere, who doubled as the chairman on the occasion also noted: “Today is a very special day for us. We want to thank the Senate President for this development and the many other projects he is putting in place. This program is meant to last for weeks. It is also in line with the campaign promises we made to the constituents when we came to solicit their support.
“We are trying to make it possible for it to be a yearly affair for our people to access free medical services in the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District”.
Dr Enyiekere encouraged his constituents to open up to the doctors and be truthful in their conversations regarding their health to aid in proper diagnosis and treatment.
In his remarks, the lead consultant, Dr Yinka Osho, noted that “everyone has numbers”, and it is important to timely check what the numbers of our bodies are saying to detect any anomalies and regulate them to keep optimal health.
Dr Osho added that in the team of medical professionals were optometrists, dentists, and doctors who are well-equipped to attend to people at no cost, courtesy of the sponsor, Dr Godswill Akpabio, and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Eye checks and free eyeglasses, teeth checks and flushing, malaria, and typhoid tests and treatment, plus HIV tests and management to be directed by Dr Imaobong Ukpah amongst others are in the package.
Some beneficiaries who spoke to our Correspondent expressed appreciation to the Senate President for the good gesture, saying that their votes were not in vain. They however promised to vote him again as their representative in the National Assembly.
