Kano State stakeholders on the domestication of the National Wome n Economic Empowerment policy (WEE) has decried the inability of women in the state to fairly access financial resources, especially in the area of agriculture, where they are primarily involved in processing activities.
A statement issued by Halima Ben Umar of Women in Media Communication Initiative, Halima Adamu of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria and Saa Hashim of Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria observed that women in the state also suffer from limited access to loans, low levels of business registration for women-owned enterprises, and significant difficulties in land ownership and leasing of properties in the state
The stakeholders meeting, which was convened by the Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children, and the Disabled, in collaboration with the Development Research and Project Centre (dRPC) proposed various supports for women in agriculture in the state, including the use of climate-smart initiatives and technology—such as drones, hydroponics, and greenhouse systems—to give them in their agricultural activities.
High points of their recommendations included involving Muslim opinion leaders in the design and implementation of the WEE policies to help facilitate their popularization among the general public.
The stakeholders meeting condemned Gender Based Violence and stressed the need to provide support for survivors of Gender Based Violence by offering skills acquisition training in shelters.
They encouraged the full implementation of existing policies to guarantee comprehensive protection for women and girls from all forms of violence.. End
