The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Okey Nwosu, has said that Nigerians must not allow the All Progressives Congress (APC) to derail the country’s democracy.
Nwosu, who stated this in Abuja, condemned the recent declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State and the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Senate and called for their reversal.
The ADC chairman, while mourning the demise of Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, and Niger Delta leader, Chief Edward Clark, said both men warned the country about the APC prior to the 2023 general election.
Nonetheless, he noted that the ADC is ready to lead the charge to reclaim the country from the ruling party and set it on a path of progress.
According to him, the party recently extended its “symbolic fraternal handshake to over 20 civil societies, associations and trade organizations,” including the Farmer Club, Justice Group, and Coalition of the Protection of Democracy Movement (COPDEM), as part of its preparation for the 2027 contest.
“As leaders we have an important role to play to reverse the deadly malaise that is crippling our nation. We must not allow APC with their 8 million votes to overrun this country and derail our democracy.”
“With over 80 million adult Nigerians on our side, we are determined to reverse this trend, reclaim our country, and position it for greatness. More than half of their so-called supporters are already pledged to work with ADC once they are assured of our sincerity.”
“Just like the Boy Scouts admonishes; We are Ready. Not only for the urgency of now, but for the trajectory of sustained value-driven and transformational mission to redefine Nigeria and light up the continent just as our forefathers had envisioned,” Nwosu said.
