Many Nigerians are upset about the federal government’s decision to suspend student loans as some said we don’t matter to him and we will never.
The Nigerian Student Loan Scheme, which was set to be launched, has been indefinitely postponed, as announced by the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, Akintunde Sawyer, during an interview on Arise Television.
They say they need more time to fix some things before starting the loan program. This news came just two days before the launch was supposed to happen, leaving many people disappointed.
This delay comes after President Bola Tinubu signed a bill in June 2023 to create a Student Loan Fund. This fund would give interest-free loans to Nigerians who want to go to college. It was supposed to start in September or October 2023, but it got pushed back to January 2024.
Minister of State for Education Yusuf Sununu said everything was ready for the program in January. They even made a website for the Student Loan Scheme and planned out how it would work.

President Tinubu promised student leaders that they would add more things to the program, like vocational studies, before starting it.
The suspension of student loans has made many Nigerians wonder if the government cares about education and helping young people.
A Twitter user has said, ”He can push 130bn to his son-in-law in 3 days, but can’t implement student loan for your children in 8 months. You don’t matter to him, you never will. Don’t worry, his son will become Governor soon, you will serve that one too.”
