The Kano state government has debunked claims suggesting it spent ₦2.335 billion on goats for its women’s livestock empowerment initiative.
Comrade Ibrahim Abdullah Waiya, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, clarified that only ₦450 million was allocated for goat procurement under the program.
He explained that the statement was issued to dispel false information and ensure the public has accurate details about the program’s expenditures.
According to Waiya, the initiative seeks to enhance economic independence for women and youth through livestock distribution.
As part of the program, 7,158 goats were distributed to 2,386 women, with each receiving three goats to help them establish livestock-based businesses.
Additionally, 1,400 cows and 1,975 rams were distributed to other beneficiaries to further promote self-reliance.
The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, urging media professionals to fact-check their reports to avoid misinformation.
“This initiative aligns with the administration’s overarching goal of empowering vulnerable groups to achieve economic independence,” he added.
