A former President of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Dr. Aliyu Oroji Wamakko, has called on the federal government to provide funding to bridge the country’s housing deficit.
In a statement on Tuesday, Wamakko said that approximately 20 million Nigerians are lacking access to affordable housing. He welcomed the Federal Government’s Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) scheme, which he described as a significant asset holding company managing the government’s investments, estates, and rights in Nigeria.
Wamakko stated: “MOFI is a major financial driver of the Nigerian economy, so I call on the Federal Government, under the renewed hope housing initiative of the president, to provide funds for the private sector to make affordable housing available to Nigerians.”
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Jedo Investment Limited raised concerns over unwholesome practices in the housing sector. He highlighted a series of complaints from developers, particularly within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, against Moure Consult Limited, which has sparked alarm within the industry.
